In this paper, a 3D finite element (FE) program ADINA was applied to analyzing a tunnel with 9 segment rings. Theloads acting on these segment rings included the squeezing action of tail brush of shield machine under attitude deflection, thejacking forces, the grouting pressure and the soil pressure. The analyses focused on the rebar stress in two statuses: (1) normalconstruction status without shield machine squeezing; (2) squeezing action induced by shield machine under attitude deflection. The analyses indicated that the rebar stress was evidently affected by the construction loads. In different construction status, therebar stress ranges from −80 MPa to 50 MPa, and the rebar is in elastic status. Even some cracks appear on segments, the stress ofsegment rebar is still at a low level. It is helpful to incorporate a certain quantity of steel fiber to improve the anti-crack and shockresistance performance.

We present recently developed new concepts for ocean nuclear power plants (ONPPs)using gravity-based structures (GBS) and tension leg platforms (TLP) [1-3]. For GBStype ONPPs, the large nuclear reactor (APR 1400) and the small and medium nuclearreactor (SMART) are mounted, respectively. For a TLP-type ONPP, SMART ismounted. We introduce basic design concepts including new general arrangements(GAs) obtained through a modularization method. In order to evaluate their safety andstability, a fully coupled seismic analysis considering GBS-seawater-soil interaction is performed for GBS-type ONPP. Hydrostatic and dynamic analyses are conducted forthe TLP-type ONPP. We believe that ONPPs are the next generation nuclear powerplants with enhanced safety useful for mankind.

The genetic mechanism and evolvement process of the reservoir bank landslide were discussed detailedly based onengineering exploration and analyzing environmental geological conditions. And some main factors effecting stability of the landslidewere analyzed emphatically. Through building a 3D FEM model of landslide, the stable situations of the landslide under varioussituations were considered based on the strength reduction method. The result shows that the landslide is steady under the naturalsituation. The front edge of the landslide will be drowned out when the reservoir retains water normally; the safety factor reduces andcan’t meet the requirements of norms. The landslide tends to be more dangerous under rainfall infiltration and rapid drawdown of thereservoir water level. And the landslide will be instable when water storage situation and earthquake situation were considered at thesame time. According to the preceding analysis, the treatment measures of cutting slope and reducing load were presented. Thelandslide is steady under various conditions after being controlled. The relevant conclusions and methods proposed take a good effectin landslide treatment.
